Orthodontic Tips for a Smooth School Year From Dr. Gray Orthodontic Specialists

Heading back to school with braces or clear aligners? With a little preparation and consistency, it’s easy to stay on track with your orthodontic treatment during the busy school year. Here are a few helpful tips from Dr. Gray Orthodontic Specialists to make your daily routine easier while protecting your smile.

Pack a Braces Care Kit

Keep a small kit in your backpack with essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss or flossers, orthodontic wax, and extra rubber bands (if prescribed). A small mirror can also help you check your teeth after lunch.

Be Mindful of School Snacks

Avoid hard, sticky, or crunchy foods that can damage your braces or get stuck in your aligners. Great snack options include soft fruits, yogurt, cheese, pasta, and sandwiches (cut into smaller pieces). Always remove aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

It’s important to brush after meals and floss daily, especially when wearing braces. If brushing isn’t possible right after lunch, rinse your mouth with water to help remove food particles until you can brush later.

Keep Up With Appointments

Orthodontic check-ins are important to keep your treatment on schedule. If you need school excuse notes, Dr. Gray Orthodontic Specialists is happy to provide them. We’ll also do our best to schedule visits around your school hours.

Smile with Confidence

Braces or aligners are part of a journey to a healthier smile. Don’t be afraid to show off your progress with confidence. Many students are on the same path, and your commitment will pay off in the long run.
