Summer Travel Tips for Braces & Aligners

Summer Travel Tips for Braces & Aligners

Summer is here—and so are vacations, road trips, and adventures! If you’re in orthodontic treatment with braces or clear aligners, a little planning can go a long way in keeping your smile on track while you’re on the go.

At Dr. Gray Orthodontic Specialists, we want to make sure your summer is smooth, fun, and free of orthodontic hiccups. Here are our top travel tips to keep your smile healthy and your treatment on track!

Pack an Orthodontic Travel Kit

Before you hit the road or board that plane, make sure to pack a travel-friendly kit with essentials like:

  • Orthodontic wax
  • Extra elastics (if prescribed)
  • Travel toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Floss or floss picks
  • Aligner case or retainer case
  • Interdental brushes
  • Mouth rinse
  • Pain reliever (just in case)

Be Smart About Snacks

Vacations often come with treats and indulgent snacks—but be mindful of what you’re eating:

  • Avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods if you have braces.
  • With aligners, remove them before eating and always rinse or brush before putting them back in.
  • Drink plenty of water and steer clear of sugary beverages.

Protect Your Smile During Activities

Planning on playing sports, hiking, or swimming? If you wear braces or aligners:

  • Wear a mouthguard during physical activities.
  • Store your aligners safely when not in use—never wrap them in a napkin (they can easily be thrown away!).
